We’re beginning to recruit fishermen to join, and we’ve already gotten a bite from the Beckhams in Cedar Key. Jeanine is an oysterman and clammer and already sells in Gainesville twice a week.

The Myth of Sustainable Seafood?

Says Brendan Smith on Grist, we need to do more than just buy the “Green”-approved seafood at natural groceries. While he focuses on sustainable aquaculture more than wild-caught, the point is still clear: local fisheries are needed to preserve cultural and environmental resources.

This first meeting is for community members interested in sustainable seafood, local food systems, and preserving small-scale commercial fishing culture in Florida.

We will explore creating a Community Supported Fishery in Gainesville, FL: regulations, consumer interest, CSF structure, group goals, and individual and fisherman involvement.
